A 25-year-old man has been extradited from Florida to St Croix to face charges in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor.
The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said the investigation began on February 9 after officers received a report that a female minor had allegedly been sexually assaulted by Ajahny Joseph.
During the investigation, detectives discovered that Joseph had left St Croix.
An arrest warrant was issued on April 7 by a Superior Court judge and entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
Investigators later learned that Joseph was in custody in Orange County, Florida.
Joseph was extradited to St Croix on July 3, where he was formally booked by police.
Bail was set at US$75,000.
Joseph was unable to secure his release and was remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing, which is scheduled for July 6 in the Superior Court.
