Trinidad and Tobago’s Nigel Paul has guaranteed himself a medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after advancing to the semi-finals of the men’s over-90kg boxing competition on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old delivered a commanding performance at Glasgow’s SEC Centre, defeating Togo’s Ramzi Salifou by unanimous 5-0 decision to book his place in the last four.

By reaching the semi-finals, Paul is assured of at least a bronze medal under Commonwealth Games boxing rules, marking the first Commonwealth Games medal of his career.

He will next face India’s Narender Berwal on July 31 for a place in the gold medal bout.

Meanwhile, Bahamian boxer Carl Hield saw his medal hopes come to an abrupt end after Northern Ireland’s Jon McConnell was awarded a walkover in their contest.

Hield, who turns 40 on August 9, was bidding to add to the bronze medal he won at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.
